Bold Beautiful Project
I was asked this spring to take images for the Bold Beauty Project. The Bold Beauty Project “is an innovative visual arts project that showcases 20 women living with various disabilities. Through the photographers’ creative lens, the audience gets a glimpse into the lives of these incredible women and recognizes their beauty, strength and sensuality — their BOLDNESS.”
I photographed Carmelys, a woman with Cerebral Palsy. We met and discussed photography and she shared that she admired the black and white images from the 1940’s with the hard, but romantic lighting. We staged the portrait session at her church, the place she finds her strength and support. You can see in the photos she really shines!
These images and the images taken of other women this summer will be on exhibit at the Anacostia Arts Center between October 10 – November 8th.
The opening reception is a fundraiser to benefit Cerebral Palsy DC & Northern Virginia.

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful spirit
Beautiful work, Lisa! Thanks for sharing.
Excited for this project! Her smile is shining through the lens, I can only imagine what it was like to be in the room with her.
